Every successful applicant is invited to join THE FORGE – our professional development journey where learning meets practice. Combining real client experience with specialist training, THE FORGE supports you in developing the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to become a safe, ethical and effective counsellor throughout the first 6 – 8 months of your placement.
Following Pegasus Induction Day and completion of your onboarding requirements, you’ll begin working with clients under the support of regular clinical supervision, while continuing your professional development through a series of specialist workshops.
Workshop dates are confirmed for each volunteer intake and delivered throughout your first 6 – 8 months with Pegasus.
The cost of joining The Forge is £250. This fee is payable only after you have successfully secured and accepted a volunteer placement. It contributes towards the delivery of specialist workshops, training materials and resources throughout the programme.
Pegasus subsidises the remaining cost as part of our commitment to developing the next generation of confident, ethical and skilled counsellors.
Yes, all volunteers and staff members are under Pegasus insurance.

If shortlisted, you’ll be invited to an informal interview to discuss your experience, placement requirements and what you hope to gain from volunteering with Pegasus.
Successful applicants will receive a conditional offer of a volunteer placement, subject to completing the onboarding process.
Once you accept your placement, you’ll enrol on The Forge and receive details of your workshop schedule.
Meet the team, complete your induction and prepare to begin your placement.
Following Induction Day and completion of your onboarding requirements, you’ll begin working with clients under the support of your Clinical Lead and within regular clinical supervision.
Attend specialist workshops throughout your first 6–8 months while gaining practical counselling experience and developing your confidence.
Continue your placement with ongoing supervision, CPD opportunities and the support of an experienced and welcoming clinical team.

No. Once you have attended Pegasus Induction Day and completed the required onboarding checks, you will begin working with clients while continuing your professional development through the remaining workshops.
Yes. The programme forms part of every volunteer placement and supports safe, ethical and effective counselling practice.
Workshops are delivered throughout the first 6–8 months of your placement. Dates will be confirmed before interviews starts.
The £250 fee is payable only after you have successfully secured and accepted a volunteer placement.
Yes. All Pegasus volunteers are required to attend mandatory in-house group clinical supervision.
Group supervision sessions are held in groups of up to four participants, last two hours, and cost £15 per session. In line with counselling training requirements, each session counts as one hour of clinical supervision towards your placement.
While our in-house group supervision is a mandatory requirement of volunteering with Pegasus, we also strongly encourage volunteers to engage in individual clinical supervision to support their ongoing professional and personal development.
Volunteers are free to arrange individual supervision with a supervisor of their choice, in addition to the mandatory Pegasus group supervision.
